A conversation with Dr. Christopher Bellitto

Dr. Christopher Bellitto is the Chair of the Department of History at Kean University.  We had a lengthy conversation about what life in the 13th Century might have looked like for St Anthony of Padua.  What surprised me was to learn about the influence Islam had on the studies of the young Anthony-Fernando.  If it hadn’t been for the presence of Islam in the Iberian Peninsula, Fernando might have never studied mathematics and the Greek Classics. Two areas of knowledge that most likely aided Anthony in his preaching against heresey.
